Ways to use coconut oil for hair this summer
Loco for Coco
Coconut oil isn't just for cooking or skincare, this must-have oil can also work wonders for the hair. From dandruff to frizz to split ends, this superfood can solve many of your hair problems. Celebrity Hairstylist Leonardo Rocco shares with us all the ways that coconut oil can be used, especially in the summer when hair can experience the most damage.
"Coconut oil makes a great conditioner. After shampooing, put a few drops of Suave Professional Coconut Oil Infusion Damage Repair Oil into your hands, rub your hands together and apply it to your hair from the middle to the ends. Leave in for three minutes, rinse and style as usual."
Intense Nutrition Treatment
"Coconut oil can also be used to restore your scalp and the ends of your hair, recovering its shine and softness. It works on all type of hair: straight, wavy, curly, kinky, dry or greasy. First put two to four tablespoons of oil (depending on your hair length) into a bowl and heat the oil in the microwave. Don’t heat for longer than twenty seconds to avoid degrading its natural qualities. Apply the warm oil from roots to the ends, rubbing it in with the tips of your fingers. Later wrap your hair in a warm damp towel. Leave in for thirty minutes and then shampoo and condition as usual."
Treatment for Lice and Nits
"Like white vinegar and apple vinegar, coconut oil is an excellent disinfectant and a superlative treatment against lice and nits."
"Coconut oil is a natural fungicide, which makes it ideal to prevent and eliminate dandruff, keeping your hair radiant and your scalp healthy if you use it regularly. Apply a small amount on the scalp and massage for three minutes. Later, leave it in for ten minutes or more: you can even leave it in overnight (wear a shower cap or place a towel over your pillow). Shampoo gently."
"You can use a small quantity of coconut oil after washing your hair, applying from the middle to the ends of your hair. When you use coconut oil as a moisturizing cream, it will be easier to detangle and say goodbye to frizz, leaving your hair incredibly shiny."
Anti-Frizz Treatment for Curly Hair
"When dry and porous hair absorbs moisture from the air, it expands, creating frizz. Water and oil are not a good combination but if you use coconut oil, it will keep your hair from absorbing this moisture. After washing and conditioning, put two or three drops of coconut oil into your hand, rub your hands together, and apply throughout your hair, pushing it up to form curls. Air dry or blow dry."
Avoid Split Ends
"When hair is extremely dry, damaged or badly in need of a trim, we get split ends. The best way to avoid this is to get regular trims, but coconut oil can also help prevent them. Apply the oil to the ends of your hair and leave it in at least three or four times per week."
Shine Seal for Hair
"When your hair is dry and smooth, put two to three drops of coconut oil in your hand (depending on the length and amount of hair), rub your hands together and apply to dry hair from the middle to the ends. When hair is extremely dry, damaged and porous, it tends to expand, creating frizz. Coconut oil is an excellent way to seal the hair cuticle and stop frizz. Plus, your hair will look shiny and healthy.
