READY FOR THE GLAMOUR
Although married to a famous artist, Ana Martens isn’t about the glamour at all; on the contrary, she always prefers to dress as comfortable and casual as possible. However, she had no choice during a few appearances at awards show with her husband. “I went to the Latin Grammy Awards last year and they made me pretty,” said Martens. “But I don’t really know how to work the makeup. I usually just apply a bit to my eyes and that’s all.”
THE NEW DO
Because her hair hasn’t been submitted too much, Ana relies on a healthy mane, “but a dull one still,” said celebrity stylist Christo, who opted to style it in long diagonal layers to get rid of some of the volume. “This cut is ideal for her type of hair, which she can keep flat and smooth or curvy with some bounce. It is a versatile look and it’s easy to manage,” said the stylist who has worked with such celebrities as Maite Perroni, Olga Tañón and Gaby Espino.
Our expert agreed that Ana’s natural hair color goes well with her complexion, so he decided not to use any dye or add highlights at all. Instead, he went to the route of using Colorrective in Chocolate, a treatment made from a vegetable base that adds just a bit of color and brings out the shine. “Hair is our principal accessory,” said Christo. “Changing it is like changing an outfit, and with each outfit your look changes completely.”
Before drying off her hair, Christo added a bit of moisturizers to the mix. “It is really important to prepare your hair before putting it under the blower because heat can easily leave it dehydrated,” explained the stylist, who applied the gel Straight Tame Glaze and the product Repair Style Cream from his Curlisto line, which protect the scalp from the humidity, especially during the hot summer days.
ADDING SOME BOUNCE
As he dried off her hair, Christo set rollers in from the very end up to the halfway point as he also added a bit of hair spray to achieve those soft waves, an ideal look for this <a href="http:/http://www.peopleenespanol.com/pespanol/redcarpet/0,30694,1902109,00.html” target=”_blank” style=”color:#E07;”>summer season.
Makeup artist Tara Drake added a liquid base as a start and topped it with a shimmering powder, both from the HD line of Make Up For Ever, and afterward dabbed on a touch of blush in a coral tone. In order to add a nice glow effect, Drake also applied powders from Shimmer Brick by Bobbi Brown in beige over her cheekbones with a small brush (as seen in the picture).
Drake longed to achieve a very dramatic look in which the eyes would be the center of attention. To do so, she realized the smoky effect, a popular style among celebrities and an ideal one for any party or special event.
To bring out her lashes, the expert added a few layers of eye shadow. “If you want your eyelashes to look full and dense, and prefer not to use fake ones, add a few layers of eye shadow,” she recommends. “That is always sufficient enough.”
“Since we wanted the focus to remain on her eyes, I added some glimmer to the lips with a nude shade,” explained Drake, who also noted that: “if you’re wearing darker eye shadow, don’t use red lipstick which would completely overdo it. Remember that you want to call the attention to just one aspect of your façade, whether it is the eyes or lips.”
The final result left Ana breathless and looking like a star of the red carpet. “It’s incredible. My eyes look bigger, more attention-grabbing,” said an emotional Ana. “I feel like the star of one of those soaps; like I’m walking to the set of the show.” Ana agreed that her husband would definitely not recognize the new her. “He is going to die when he sees me. He has never seen me like this before. I think he’s going to love it though,” she said.
