A beautiful baby
Thalía Sodi Miranda was born in Mexico City on August 26, 1971. Her career got under way at age one, when she was featured in a soda pop ad in Mexico, looking more or less as she does in this picture. In 1983, producer Pedro Damián gave her the first big break in her career, casting her in the novela La pobre señorita Limantour.

Wild bangs
In 1986, Thalía (top, second from left to right) joins the most important teenage musical group Mexico has ever had: Timbiriche. With her wild hair and bangs, Miss Sodi was the band's star. In 1987, Carla Estrada asked her to become one of the leads, alongside Adela Noriega, in the successful novela Quinceañera.

The popular actress
In 1988, Thalía reaches teenage-idol status and announces she's leaving the group. In 1989, Sodi explores her serious actress persona in more novelas and in 1990, takes the audience by surprise with her first solo album and a new look. In 1992, alongside half sister Laura Zapata (photo), Thalía is the lead in one of the most memorable novelas of all times María Mercedes.

Waltz time
After her romance with politician Gustavo Díaz Ordaz, Thalía marries producer and then-Sony Music president Tommy Mottola on Dec. 2, 2000. Mottola, born December 14, 1949, was previously married to Mariah Carey. High-wattage guests at the wedding, which took place in New York's St. Patrick's Cathedral, included Michael Jackson, Robert De Niro and the entire Sodi-Miranda clan.

Businesswoman
On April 13, 2004, Thalía launches one of many projects in the United States: her own magazine, which only lasted three issues. Previously she had launched her own clothing line for K-Mart, and, soon after, the beautiful star becomes a pitchwoman for Hershey's chocolate.

The crossover
On July 8, 2003 Thalía releases her first CD to include some songs in English. Her single "I Want You," with Fat Joe, soon hits Billboard's top ten list. On July 13, 2005, Thalía releases her latest CD, El sexto sentido which included songs in both languages, but, alas, flopped.

Despite rumors about the Thalía-Tommy marriage, on April 1st 2007, PEOPLE EN ESPAÑOL hits the newsstands with Thalía on the cover proclaiming: "This year I'm going to be a mother."

Proud Mama
Despite rumors about the Thalía-Tommy marriage, on April 1st 2007, PEOPLE EN ESPAÑOL hits the newsstands with Thalía on the cover proclaiming: "This year I'm going to be a mother." Thalía surprised her fans on the morning of June 12th when she fessed up on her website that she is expecting a baby girl. On July 18th she showed off her pregnancy for the first time during the auction of the late Mexican actress María Félix's estate in New York. The evening of October 8th, Peopleenespanol.com got a press release confirming that the baby was born on October 7th. Her name is Sabrina Sakaë, which means "princess," and "prosperity".
