Real Life Telenovelas!
The whole life of beloved Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera was a complete real-life telenovela. Not only did she have to endure three divorces, she also had to deal with her first husband sexually abusing her sister and one of her daughters. A few months before her tragic death last December, she had announced her divorce from her third husband, former baseball player Esteban Loaiza. The rumors behind the reasons for their separation after two years of marriage eventually led to a very public dispute between Jenni and her daughter Janney 'Chiquis' Marin. Versions emerged of Chiquis having gotten involved in a relationship with her mother's husband. Jenni and Chiquis ended up exchanging several messages on Twitter, in which Jenni's daughter complained that her mom had not talked to her in over a month, and also made it very clear that she had had nothing to do with her divorce.
THALÍA VS. HER GRANDMOTHER
Mexican singer Thalía (center) has also been involved in a dispute made very public by her half-sister Laura Zapata (left). Zapata has been complaining for several months that Thalía and her other sisters do not collaborate with a single penny to help out their grandmother Eva Mange (right). Thalía has refused time and again to discuss this issue publicly, saying that family matters should be kept private. Zapata, however, has accused her on Twitter of gossiping around in the media and not sending her abuela the money she needs. So what next? Thalía's grandmother has sued the singer and her three sisters, demanding a monthly pension. Stay tuned!
CARMEN DOMINICCI & FERNANDO DEL RINCÓN
Puerto Rican news presenter Carmen Dominicci and Mexican news presenter Fernando del Rincón appeared to be one of the most stable couples on television; both worked for Univision. Less than a year after their wedding in Puerto Rico, things went really sour. While visiting the Dominican Republic together, the couple had a heated argument in their hotel room and several people heard the screaming. Dominicci said her husband hit her —she would later show her bruises on television— while Del Rincón denied the allegations. Back in Miami, the couple separated and the scandal took such huge proportions that they both ended up getting fired from the network. Their divorce was finalized in November of 2008.
FIGHTING AT A FUNERAL
Puerto Rico was shaken by the tragic shooting of former boxer Héctor 'Macho' Camacho last November. While family and friends paid their last respects to 'Macho' during a public service held in Puerto Rico (days before his body was taken to New York, where he would be buried), a woman named Cynthia Castillo —who claimed to be Macho's girlfriend— approached the casket, lifted the veil that covered the former boxer's body and kissed his lips. Camacho's sisters Esther and Estrella, along with Gloria Fernández —who also claimed to be Camacho's woman— confronted Castillo and police had to break up the fight. As if that weren't enough, there was yet another altercation at Saint Reymond's Cemetery in the Bronx, during Camacho's burial. An argument broke out between Camacho's mother María Matías and her grandson Christian Camacho. "Don't be a hypocrite," Matías told Christian as she stared him down. "You guys are going to pay for this. My son left in a lot of pain and you know that. I know everything; my son told me."
PAULINA RUBIO & NICOLÁS VALLEJO-NÁGERA
Mexican singer Paulina Rubio and Nicolás Vallejo-Nágera (nicknamed 'Colate') married on April 30th, 2007. In 2012, the Spanish entrepreneur filed for divorce and demanded custody of their son Andrea Nicolás, equal division of property, and alimony. The singer countersued, stating that there was a prenuptial agreement in place which had already established a separation of property, and which also rejected giving up the boy's custody to 'Colate.' The divorce battle is still going on, and TMZ has recently reported that Paulina hired a private eye to spy on her ex, in an attempt to prove that his lifestyle doesn't make him fit to have custody of the child.
CRISTIAN CASTRO & VALERIA LIBERMAN
Mexican singer Cristian Castro and Argentinian former wife Valeria Liberman had a very prolongued divorce trial that was surrounded by scandal: his sexual preference was put into question while she was said to only want his money. After 14 gruesome months, in April of 2009, the couple finally ended their four-year marriage, from which their daughters Simone and Mikhail Zaratustra were born.
ADAMARI LÓPEZ Y LUIS FONSI
Actress Adamari López and singer Luis Fonsi were one of the cutest, most beloved couples in Hispanic showbusiness. The Puerto Rican couple married in 2006 and announced their separation in November 2009. The divorce was finalized a year later. They remained on very good terms until Adamari published her autobiographical book Viviendo at the very end 2012. In her book, the acress talks about her battle against breast cancer and —among several other things— her relationship with Fonsi, including his infidelities. While promoting the book, she gave an interview on Telemundo in which she broke down in tears and said Fonsi had once told her he "no longer desired [her] as a woman." Fonsi remained quiet for as long as he could, until he recently published an open letter in which he calls his ex wife's book a "personal attack", and denies having ever said those things to her. Adamari responder by saying: "Well, he has pertty bad memory; I remember that moment quite vividly."
OLGA TAÑÓN VS. HER EX
In the summer of 2012, Puerto Rican singer Olga Tañón filed a court petition to have her husband Billy Denizard adopt her daughter, 16-year-old Gabriella González. This has triggered a custody war with her ex-husband and Gabriella's father, Juan 'Igor' González, whom she divorced in 1999 after a year of marriage. Tañón's oldest daughter suffers from an undiagnosed condition that requires constant treatment and attention, something that deeply worries the singer. Tañón, who argues that González has rarely ever been there for his daughter, has also stated that if she were ever unable to care for her daughter, Gabriella "should remain surrounded by the family she has always known." The battle continues...
ANA BÁRBARA HAS A BABY... FROM HER FRIEND
In August 2011, Mexican singer Ana Bárbara announced that she was pregnant with her third child, whom she would name Jerónimo. The singer also revealed that she had gotten pregnant through in vitro fertilization, but decided to keep the father's identity a secret. Many speculated that it could be Mexican journalist Jorge Ramos, but the singer denied the rumors. Others pointed at singer Reyli, her very good friend, but he denied the rumors as well: "Not at all," he said. Three months after Jerónimo's birth, Reyli confirmed that he was, indeed, the father of Ana Bárbara's third child, although many were off-put by his words: "After 20 years of friendship, we decided to have a baby." According to both Reyli and Ana Bárbara, they never had a romantic relationship.
NIURKA MARCOS & JUAN OSORIO
Cuban entertainer Niurka Marcos and Mexican producer Juan Osorio started dating in 1998 and had a son named Juan Emilio. Their relationship was quite tumultuous and was constantly surrounded by all kinds of rumors. Among these there was the rumor that she had allegedly cheated on Osorio with Mexican actor Bobby Larios, whom Niurka had met on the set of the telenovela Velo de novia (produced by her husband). After they announced their separation in 2004, Niurka pretty much lost all civility when she offered an interview on Mexican television and said: "I make love to myself, all by myself."
EVA LONGORIA & TONY PARKER
Eva Longoria's life all of a sudden turned into a real-life version of Desperate Housewives when she found out that —as she told her good friend Mario López on Extra— her husband of three years, NBA star Tony Parker, had been cheating on her with two different mistresses. One of them turned out to be a Facebook fling, while the other happened to be the wife of another NBA player.
