María Antonieta Collins is living proof that if you want to do something, you just have to set your mind to it. The Mexican journalist, who will soon launch her new book Because I Want to, Because I Can, and Because I Feel Like It (Harper Collins) and her new radio talk show "The Life and Times of Collins" (FDR Radio), lost 20 pounds and three sizes in just three months.
How? Following the detox program prescribed by her Uruguayan doctor Alejandro Junger detailed in the book Clean: A Revolutionary Program to Restore the Body's Natural Ability to Heal Itself (Harper Collins). This consists of eliminating foods that can cause allergies, like carbs.
To follow this rigorous regimen, Collins had to say goodbye to pasta and her beloved buttered bread in the morning. She also had to substitute drinking soft drinks and sugary juices with eight glasses of water. She also does periodic colon cleanses to eliminate impurities and walks at least 20 minutes a day. The hardest part is to substitute breakfast and dinner with protein shakes and vitamins.
However, after losing weight and plunging all her energy into writing her back, Collins is no longer left with a bad taste in her mouth. "It's a process that isn't easy because you have to stick to it everyday," says Collins, convinced that looking and feeling better is all worth the effort. "I want woman who are 50 years and older to know that they can look good and be healthy, and do whatever they set their mind to do."
