Give it Up to Haiti
Both Shakira and boyfriend Antonio de la Rúa leave the studios in New York where the Hope for Haiti Now telethon was held by actor George Clooney and Haiti native Wyclef Jean. Tons of artists alike pulled together to sing for viewers as the relief efforts continue to amass for those who are still in need.
Help continues to pour in from many celebrities after the natural tragedy that occurred on January 12 in Haiti. Model Cindy Crawford and actresses Reese Witherspoon, Drew Barrymore and Julia Roberts all accepted the invitation to participate in the telethon hosted by MTV in Los Angeles, CA.
During her segment on the telethon, Madonna sang "Like a Prayer" accompanied by a heartfelt chorus. The singer also donated $250,000 to one of many foundations helping the victims of the terrible earthquake.
DOING HER PART
Singer Alejandra Guzmán was just one of many Latino artists to appear on the telethon for the show Sábado gigante held on the Univision network and hosted by Don Francisco. Guzmán sang one of her many hits, "Mentiras piadosas".
HELP IS ON THE WAY
Singer Paulina Rubio didnt miss the opportunity to do her part for Haiti as well. Rubio sang a version of her song "Causa y efecto" and then asked for the help of all those in attendance to answer phone calls from those donating all over the world.
MUSIC IS A GIFT
Colombian singer Juanes only needed his guitar and a microphone to lend a helping hand as he sang "Odio por amor" on the program with Don Francisco.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
Gloria Estefan opened the telethon on the Univision network along with a chorus of Haitian singers. Estefan also co-hosted the program with Don Francisco and later announced that she and her husband Emilio Estefan would donate another $50,000 in addition to what they provided a doctor with to purchase medicine and to treat victims.
FIRST IN LINE
Singer Olga Tañón was one of the very first artists to agree to participate in the 5-hour long televised program aired to help raise funds for the American Red Cross Foundation.
Just days after Gaby Espino announced her split up with Cristobal Lnder, the actress joined by co-star Jencarlos Canela attends this event to promote their telenovela Más sabe el diablo (Telemundo) in Dallas, TX, where spills of fans witness this steamy kiss take place off the screen. Canela also took the opportunity to sing his latest hit Amor qudate.
