Rapper turned activist Meek Mill has become a symbol of criminal justice reform since his own legal troubles landed him in prison. He’s concerned with the mass incarceration issues that are faced by POC. Mill’s civic action is rightly celebrated. And so is his music. In honor of Meek Mill’s “Motivational tour” homecoming, the Philadelphia City Council declared March 15 to 17 “Meek Mill Weekend” as he will be performing three days in a row. Going almost nonstop, Meek, 31, just completed his first back-to-back shows in New York City, at the Hammerstein Ballroom March 11 and 12. The tour’s opening acts are Dominican-by-way-of-Harlem rapper Melii, followed by Detroit rapper Kash Doll. Joining Meek on stage for “Uptown Vibes” was Brooklyn rapper Fabulous. The track is an ode to Latin culture as the rapper explained to CHICA: “I have had a lot of love for all Latinos from Philly to Dyckman in New York City to everywhere. It was dope to collaborate with Annuel on ‘Uptown Vibes.’ He’s a young star that’s hungry for success.” Meek brought out a few surprise acts, starting off with “Money Longer” rapper Lil Uzi Vert, who announced his retirement from rap not too long ago. Other rappers and celebs came to show love throughout the night, enjoying cognac in the D’USSÉ lounge. Below are some loyal supporters of the “Going Bad” rapper.
