Maluma's Mystery Baby Is Actually a Surprise Visual Album
The Colombian artist's teasing Instagrams were actually about his latest project, 7 Days in Jamaica.
Maluma is a master at creating suspense on social media before he releases a new project. The Colombian singer and actor had fans intrigued when he posted photos of himself hugging a woman whose bare stomach had the message "#7DJ" written on it. Some followers thought Maluma could be expecting a baby with a mystery love, but on Thursday, he cleared it all up: the baby is an album, and #7DJ stands for 7 Days in Jamaica, its title.
He had many followers on Instagram calling him "Papa Juancho" and begging to know more details about the baby's sex and the identity of the mystery woman. "Maluma baby — literally," one joked. The singer explained everything in an Instagram Live on Thursday, which also happened to be his 27th birthday.
The project, out now on Apple Music, consists of seven interconnected songs and videos which take fans on an audiovisual journey as Maluma explores the heart of Jamaica. It's a musical adventure that fuses reggae and dancehall with urban Latin music, and includes collaborations with Ziggy Marley and Charly Black.
The short film, comprised of seven interconnected music videos, was shot in Jamaica and Los Angeles and was produced by 36 Grados.
Last year, the singer and some of his friends took a week-long trip to Jamaica that he described as life-changing. "Those seven days in Jamaica came at a time when I needed to escape and decompress, as I had intently worked nonstop on my career for seven years and I was questioning if I should even continue doing music," he said in a press release about the new album. "I did a lot of soul-searching there and came back a different person, completely inspired and having realized that music is not just what I do, it's part of who I am, how I experience and interpret life."
