PUERTO RICAN ROYALTY
Fans are going wild over the news that Luis Fonsi will be visiting Telemundo’s morning show Un Nuevo Día on Thursday. Will this mean he will reunite on TV with his ex-wife Adamari López, one of the cohosts? Will they be together on set? Will they hug it out or avoid each other? The possible televised reunion between the Puerto Rican singer, 40, and the telenovela actress, 47, is generating much expectation.
Their love story seemed like a fairy-tale with their dream wedding in Puerto Rico in 2006 — just as Lopez was battling breast cancer — made their fans swoon.
But the couple divorced in 2010. In her memoir Viviendo, López tells her version of their breakup, alleging that the “Despacito” singer was unfaithful and not totally supportive during her cancer battle.
ECHAME LA CULPA
Fonsi denied Lopez’s claims in an open letter in 2013, where he said: “I have resisted and I have stayed silent. Magazine cover after magazine cover, interview after interview, in an insensitive and cruel manner, things have been said that never happened. This time staying silent would be a mistake. For the last time, I will speak about this. The story being told — although its very dramatic and lucrative, it’s not only incomplete, it’s not truthful. It conveniently describes an insentive man who abandoned his wife in the midst of her fight against a difficult disease. I am not that person. What has been said is an absolute lack of respect to my integrity as a human being, to my partner, to my daughter, to my entire family.”
López — who graced the People en Español cover with Fonsi as the Stars of the Year in happier days in 2006 — said about Fonsi in an interview to Primera Hora after the sour breakup: “Time has passed. We have matured. We have forgotten. We have forgiven. We have rebuilt our lives.”
Fonsi married Spanish model Agueda Lopez in a romantic ceremony in Napa Valley, California, in 2014. The singer told CHICA about the mother of his two kids: “My wife is a true champion.”
The singer is devoted to his kids, Mikaela, 6, and Rocco, 2. The proud dad lights up when he talks about them. “I love playing with them, taking my daughter to school, watching movies, and hug them to the point they can’t stand me anymore,” he told CHICA. “Everything I do is for them, they are my light and I can’t believe how lucky I am to have them in my life.”
The actress and TV host has also moved on. Lopez is planning her wedding this year to Spanish dancer and choreographer Toni Costa, to whom she got engaged in 2015 under the moonlight on a beach in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. In a sweet Valentine’s Day post this year, Lopez said to her future husband and father of her daughter: “I love you darling, thanks for completing me, for making me laugh and giving me the most important gift of our lives.”
DREAMS COME TRUE
Lopez’s dream of becoming a mom came true in 2015, with the birth of her daughter Alaia, 4. She has also found her soulmate in Costa. “I have the family I always dreamed of,” she told People en Español.
Now that the famous exes have each found happiness with their current partners, is friendship in the cards for Luis and Adamari? We will tune in to Un Nuevo Día this Thursday to find out!
