How the Riveras Honored 'La Diva de la Banda' Jenni Rivera on the 8th Anniversary of Her Death
It's been eight years since Jenni Rivera died in a tragic helicopter crash in California. Her loved ones paid tribute to her on the emotional day.
On December 9, 2012, Mexican singer Jenni Rivera lost her life in a helicopter crash in Iturbide, Mexico. This Wednesday, the Rivera family remembered La Diva de la Banda on the eighth anniversary of her death. Daughter Jacqie Rivera shared a childhood photo of herself with her mom on Instagram with the message: "My heart feels like December and nothing is the same since you've been gone. How have we lived 8 years without you. I guess we're just as strong as you were. l Love and miss you more than I can bear."
Jenni's son Johnny also shared a heartfelt letter to the "Mariposa de Barrio" singer on Instagram. "8 - The number of infinite love, energy and balance. December 9th 2012 adds up to an 8," he reflected. "Momma, I'm sure you know that no matter what day of the year it is, it's hard for me to not think of you. You graduated to your spirit life on this day eight years ago. The most devastating day of my life."
The news of his mom's death devastated him. "I remember being in the bathroom at Grandma's house early that Sunday morning," he recalls. "I grabbed my iPad in secret and saw that last photo that Jacob posted of you guys. Seeing the comments, dropping my iPad to the floor. I couldn't believe this was happening to me at age 11. There was no way I was actually losing my momma just three years after losing my father. For the years going forward I would go to sleep at night hoping this was just a horrible nightmare I would wake up from. Many times contemplating killing myself so I could end my pain. Wishing so bad that I was on that plane with you like I was originally supposed to be. It's incredible that I was at church of all places when I texted you that I wanted to go with you, but it didn't end up happening. God was really protecting me from the outcome."
Johnny also reflected on a difficult 2020 and added, "This year, I’ve been granted more peace than ever and I know you're always with me and guiding me. I know you're bringing balance and revealing truths. I'm more proud of you than I have ever been and I can't wait to see you again. I'm going to live life as long as God allows me to and when it's over, I know I'll see your face."
Jenni's daughter Jenicka also shared a photo of herself surrounded by her mom's gold records with the caption, "Stays winning."
Jenni's sister Rosie Rivera, the president of Rivera Enterprises, shared an image on her Instagram Stories in bed covering herself with a Jenni Rivera blanket with the message, "I will dream of her today."
Jenni's mother, Rosa Rivera, shared a photo with her grandchildren Jacqie, Johnny, and Jenicka and her great-granddaughter surrounded by the singer's gold records with the caption, "My daughter continues triumphing, getting gold records. She is not here physically but continues to succeed. No one has been able to knock her down, no one has been able to take her place."
