Jackie Cruz joined the Los Dinos and Elektro Kumbia last week to perform a cover of Selena Quintanilla’s song “Como La Flor” at the Fiesta de la Flor in Corpus Christi, TX.
“Impromptu moment with Los Dinos and Elektro Kumbia. This was probably the scariest thing I ever had to do in my life! Being embraced by Selena fans was so beautiful and unexpected! Thank you @suzettesyld and @Abquintanilla3 @fiestaflorcc I was so honored to jam with you guys and this moment will forever stay in my heart!,” Cruz captioned the video of their performance on Instagram.
Jackie was invited to the Fiesta de la Flor by Selena’s sister Suzette Quintanilla, who she met at the unveiling of the Madame Tussauds’ Hollywood wax figure of the late Tejano superstar.
The Orange is the New Black star has always been a major fan of the “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom” singer and a day before hitting the stage with her siblings, Jackie had the opportunity to bond with the Quintanilla family, even visiting some of Selena’s favorite places in her hometown, including her favorite restaurant.
“Selena was the only person that I looked up to that was American and also Latina, and she celebrated both cultures, and that was something that inspired me.” Cruz tells E! News.
The actress also revealed how influential Selena was since a young age saying, “I knew I wanted to be a singer and an actress. It’s a decision that I made when I was six years old. And as I watched her, I said, ‘I want to be like her’.
