Lele Pons joined People en Español at a celebratory luncheon last Friday as one of their 25 Most Powerful Women of 2017. The social media star joined her mentor, actress Gaby Espino, at the event that honored Hispanic women leaders who are making a difference in the world and empowering other women with their philanthropic, educational or business work. The two won their placement on the list from online voting that took place earlier this year.
Before taking the stage at the event, Pons joined the magazine’s fashion and beauty director, Ursula Carranza, to talk about the true meaning of being an empowering woman, how she gained success on social media and her experience walking for Dolce & Gabbana during Milan Fashion Week last month.
As an influential woman, the comedian and author prioritizes making sure that her followers feel that they can be just like her. “When people come up to me and they’re like, ‘oh my god, you’re Lele,’ [you should] act like you’re literally like them because it shows that they could do exactly what you do and maybe even better,” says Lele. “You want to inspire people to do exactly what you’re doing.”
