Nicole Mejia’s passion for fitness wasn’t developed overnight. After confessing to her father that she felt insecure about her body, Mejia began training with her dad on weekends. “I was able to be encouraged out of love,” she says. What started as a hobby for the Colombian-American is now a full-fledged career.
As a fitness model, trainer, and entrepreneur, Mejia’s job is simple: get results. Through app Fit+Thick, Mejia has reached over 20,000 with her meal and exercise plan, which is rooted in the notion that a healthy body can also be thick.
Mejia’s love for helping others has always been key to her career development. Before she started her business, the Miami-based entrepreneur was a student in nursing school. She credits her love of children for her immersion into nursing, but she says it wasn’t enough.
After a few years in nursing school, Mejia turned to Instagram, where she quickly garnered a community of thousands of followers, who shared her interest in fitness. “I went from a few thousand to a million followers in six months,” she says. “I came to this crossroads where I could either stay in nursing and have it as a fail save or I could leave and attempt this.”
It was her following who guided Mejia at that time. Some requested IRL personal training, while others asked questions about Mejia’s decision to eat plant-based diet. It was then that she decided to combine it all and launch her mobile app Fit+Thick.
“I am honored. I feel like I am walking in purpose,” she says.
