Dreamer shows her tax return and challenges Donald Trump to follow in her example
Belén Sisa, a student at Arizona State University, proudly and openly displayed her tax return on Facebook while challenging US President Donald Trump to do the same.
In her message entitled “Myth Buster”, the young dreamer exposed her migratory and financial status. “I, an undocumented immigrant, just filed my taxes and PAID $300 to the state of Arizona.” she said. “I cannot receive financial aid from the state or federal government for school, I cannot benefit from unemployment, a reduced healthcare plan, or a retirement fund. I think I'm a pretty good citizen.”
The young woman, who is a part of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals Program (DACA), then added: “Oh and there are MILLIONS just like me who pay into a system they will never receive anything from. Wanna tell me again how I should be deported, contribute nothing and only leech off this country while the 1% wealthiest people in this country steal from you everyday? How about you show me yours Donald J. Trump? #HereToStay”
According to the Fusion.com, a study on undocumented immigrant contributions from the Institute of Taxation and Economic Policy found that undocumented immigrants annually pay more than $11 billion in state and local taxes.
According to researchers, these immigrants pay taxes at an estimated rate of 8 percent of their income, a figure higher than that of the richest Americans in the country who pay a tax rate of 5.4 percent.
The only tax return of the current U.S. president that has been made public were two pages of his 2005 report that the White House released a few weeks ago, but were revealed on The Rachel Maddow Show (MSNBC) hours earlier.
