What to know about the television special celebrating America's next chapter.

Tom Hanks will host the upcoming television special Celebrating America, marking the inauguration of Joe Biden as the new president of the United States and Kamala Harris as the new vice president on January 20, Deadline reports.

The 90-minute program will include performances by Demi Lovato, Justin Timberlake, Bon Jovi, and Ant Clemons, as well as other stars to be announced soon. The special will air at 8 p.m. ET on most networks, including NBC, ABC, CBS, CNN, and MSNBC. The historic moment will also be streamed on various online outlets.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the inauguration will be mostly virtual, and because of the January 6 assault on the Capitol by Trump supporters, there will be increased security. The 46th president will still be sworn in at the Capitol, though the New York Times reports that there will not likely be a motorcade parade to the White House.

"This inauguration presents a unique opportunity to spotlight the resilience and spirit of an America united," said Tony Allen, the President of Delaware State University and CEO of the Presidential Inaugural Committee. "We have witnessed countless heroes this past year step up to the frontlines and serve their fellow Americans, so we are telling their stories, spreading their collective light, and celebrating the best of our country and its people with this primetime program."

Demi Lovato expressed her excitement on Instagram. "I'm SO honored to announce that I will be joining Joe Biden and Kamala Harris for their special event 'Celebrating America,'" the "Commander In Chief" singer wrote. "I was left speechless when I was asked to perform!"
