Juan Gabriel was found dead at his home in Santa Monica, California, on Sunday morning. The iconic singer, 66, had recently kicked off his tour, MeXXIco Es Todo, that began on August 19th. He performed his last show in Inglewood, Calif., on August 26th. 

News of his passing flooded the Internet. President Barack Obama even took to social media to share a message about the musical influence and legacy of Mexico’s best selling artist of all time. 

“For over forty years, Juan Gabriel brought his beloved Mexican music to millions, transcending borders and generations,” said Obama. “He was one of the greats of Latin music —and his spirit will live on in his enduring songs, and in the hearts of the fans who love him.”
