THINX, the brand behind the underwear designed to wear during your period, just revealed a new subway ad in Union Square, New York City.
The ad unveiled a campaign, People With Periods, for the company’s new Boyshort style and features transgender model, Sawyer DeVuyst. The company aims to educate people through representation of the trans menstruating male community.
“Trans inclusion is something that has been on our radar since the iteration of our Boyshort, which was specifically designed with the trans male menstruating community in mind,” said CEO and Founder Miki Agrawal.” One of THINX’s key goals is education, and there is so much education to be done with the general public on the trans community, and what their needs are.”
In a film by THINX, Saywer talks about his journey of coming out and the realities of dealing with menstruation as a transgender.
“I would wear multiple layers … just to make sure that I didn’t leak anywhere or that no one knew I had my period, said Sawyer. “There’s a lack of trans-male visibility, and within that visibility, nobody is talking about periods or menstruation because it is a source of shame.”
