The 16th annual BET Awards took place last night in Los Angeles and the network delivered a must-see show. The evening included an array of music A-listers, impressive performances, and laugh-out-loud moments. Beyonce's surprise performance: The show got its viewers into formation to start the show. Beyoncé surprised the crowd with a live performance of “Freedom,” with rapper Kendrick Lamar joining her on stage. Hamilton Parody: If you keep up with trending topics, you know that the Broadway hit Hamilton is all that people can talk about nowadays. Prince Tribute: Jennifer Hudson, Tori Kelly, Stevie Wonder, Janelle Monae, Maxell, Erykah Badu, Sheila E., The Roots, and Bilal all came together for a series of performances for a Prince Tribute. Justin Timberlake Backlash: Social media during the show was on fire as well. It started with Jesse Williams accepting the humanitarian of the year award with a speech about racism and cultural appropriation that moved everyone in the audience and at home watching. The speech also inspired popstar Justin Timberlake who was later criticized for this tweet showing support to the actor and responding to one user's comment. Timberlake went on to apologize for the misunderstanding.
Usher Gets Political: The singer wore a green jacket with the words “Don't Trump America” on the back in bold, white print for his performance. Usher is not holding back to let the world know how he feels towards the Republican presidential nominee.
