Nominations for MTV Latin America Announced

Nominations for the 6th annual MTV Awards Latin America were announced today in Mexico City.

Mexican singer Belinda heads the nominations list with five mentions. Spanish singer Alejandro Sanz and Argentinean rock group Babasónicos aren't far behind, each with four nominations.

Other list-toppers include the Mexicans División Minúscula, Julieta Venegas, Maná, Panda and Paulina Rubio; the Argentineans Gustavo Cerati and Miranda; and the Chilean group Kudai, each with three nominations.

This year, three new award categories have been added: Best Urban Artist, the Fashionista Award and the Influencia Award, which will honor an influential artist in the music industry.

The event is set to broadcast live on Thursday, Oct. 18, from the Palacio de los Deportes in Mexico City. Organizers announced that the live show will include performances from U.S. pop singer Hillary Duff, Canadian Avril Lavigne, the Mexican group Café Tacvba and British band The Cure.
