Mexico's Telethon 2007 Raises $38 Million
With the help of the donors and some special performances, the event did better than was expected
Mexican singer Lucero announced the good news early Sunday morning: Mexico's Telethon 2007 earned 421,893,853 pesos, which amounts to more than 38 million U.S. dollars. The money raised will be used to build two children's rehabilitation centers in the country in an effort to help victims affected by the natural disasters in Chiapas and Tabasco.
Stars from all over the Spanish-speaking world, like Enrique Iglesias, Juan Luis Guerra and Juanes, performed at the event in the hopes of motivating viewers to donate. Iglesias drove female fans wild when he sang three hits on stage. Alejandra Guzmán and La Nueva Banda Timbiriche also joined the effort.
This was the 11th year for the event, which was just as successful as ever at achieving its goal of helping underprivileged children.
