The rumors of a marital crisis between La Infanta Elena and her husband Jaime de Marichalar are true. Yesterday, the House of Bourbon confirmed that the Duke and Duchess of Lugo have mutually decided to separate.

The Palacio de la Zarzuela (where King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofía reside) announced that the pair agreed to a temporary separation, without giving more details. The two were last seen together at a fashion awards event on Oct. 25. La Infanta Elena, 43, has two children with Marichalar: Felipe Juan Froilán, 9, and Victoria Federica, 6.

The royal couple experienced a rough period in Dec. 2001 when Marichalar, 45, suffered cerebral ischemia (lack of blood supply) while exercising. The Duke and Duchess of Lugo were married in 1995 and currently live in Madrid, Spain.
