The Colombian singer won four awards, among them, Best Artist of the Year, Best Soloist, and Best Rock Artist
There’s no doubt that the MTV Latinoamérica awards belonged to Juanes. Aside from being the most sought-after celebrity in Guadalajara, México, where the awards show took place, the singer also took home four of the seven awards he was nominated for.
The 36-year-old Colombian singer won tongue-shaped statuettes in the categories including Best Soloist, Best Overall Artist, Best Rock Artist, and Artist of the Year.
“I want to dedicate this award to my family, to my daughters, and Latin American,” said Juanes, who also acknowledged Metallica as an inspiration in his music. It’s been 20 years since I bought my first guitar, thanks to the best band in the world: Metallica. I’m here because of them.”
The show was attended by various musician including Julieta Venegas, Katy Perry, Metallica and Juanes, who sang his new single, “Odio por amor.” But the best musical moment was when Café Tacvba and Calle 13 sang “No hay nadie como tú”. At the end of the song, René Pérez Joglar jumped into the cheering audience, and went back onstage without a shirt, since it was ripped off by the crowd.
Other winners included Chilean group Kudai, winning Best Pop Artist; Ximena Sariñana, Belanova, and German band Tokio Hotel.
