Hispanic Desperate Housewives On the Way
A Latin version of the popular U.S. series Desperate Housewives is currently being filmed in Argentina. Lucía Méndez, Scarlet Ortiz, Lorna Paz, Ana Serradilla, Gabriela Vergara and Julieta Rosen will star on the Univisión show (Amas de casa desesperadas in Spanish), co-produced with Disney-ABC Latin America.
“There is no doubt that this joint production between Univisión and our company is going to have a significant impact on the U.S. Hispanic television audience,” said Leonardo Aranguibel, senior production manager of Disney-ABC Latin America.
Méndez, 52, will play Alicia Arizmendi, who dies in the first episode and becomes the story's narrator. Ortiz, 33, will take on the role of the absent-minded Susana Martínez. Paz, 37, who acts in Yo soy Betty, la fea, plays a publicist and mother of triplets. And the role of the flirt Gabriela Solís – played by Eva Longoria in the original series – will go to Serradilla, 29.
“We're very pleased with the stellar quality of our cast,” stated Otto Padrón, vice president of programming and promotions for Univisión. “The worldwide success of Desperate Housewives is due in great part to the actors who give life to the fascinating characters. We're confident that our viewers will really enjoy the new show,” he added.
Diego Ramos, Bernie Paz, Diego Bertie and Ricardo Dalmacci will be some of the male cast members on Amas de casa desesperadas, which premieres at the beginning of next year.
