George Clooney is aware that the minor injuries he and girlfriend Sarah Larson suffered as a result of their Friday motorcycle accident could have been much worse.

“I feel pretty lucky we got out of it,” the 46-year-old actor told PEOPLE. “It's scary. We never really saw it coming.”

According to police reports, Clooney was driving his Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Boulevard East, in Weehawken, NJ, at 3:30 p.m. when he hit a 1999 Mazda Milenia. The actor tried to pass the car on the right while the driver tried to turn in the same direction.

The Ocean's Thirteen star explained that the driver of the car “signaled left and went right…we got hit.” Clooney faced a rib hairline fracture and road rash, and Larson, 28, broke her big toe.

The couple was taken to Palisades Health Center, where they got medical attention. And even though they're still recuperating, the two made it to the premiere of Clooney's new movie, Michael Clayton, in New York, where Larson was seen on crutches. The actor had a bandage on his right arm.

But the consequences for Clooney may go beyond the physical. According to the British site Digital Spy, the actor has been informed that he could face charges of reckless driving.
