Former Stripper David Hernández Will Stay on American Idol
The Latino finalist will not be kicked off the show for working at a gay cabaret
David Hernández, the Hispanic finalist on American Idol (FOX), can breathe a sigh of relief. Even though it was revealed that he worked as a stripper at a gay club in Phoeniz, Az., Hernández will not be eliminated from the competition.
“The truth is we're never judgmental about what people do to earn a living. They've gotta put food in people's mouths. If it were some sort of heavy porn, then maybe we'd have to take action. But certainly not on this,” Idol producer Ken Warwick told TVGuide.com.
The 24-year-old's good reputation was tarnished when his former boss said that Hernández used to work for him. “He had the look and the type that people like, so he made pretty good money here,” Dick's Cabaret manager Gordy Bryan said, according to AP. Bryan went on to say that Hernández was a nude dancer at the locale for three years, only to leave in September 2007, three months before auditioning for the popular reality competition in San Diego.
