Daddy Yankee confirmed his participation as executive producer of the NY stage version of Celia Cruz's life and music, La vida y música de Celia Cruz. It will attempt to chronicle her trials, tribulations and happy triumphs.

“Being part of this project is a way of paying tribute to my musical and cultural heritage. The world loved Celia Cruz, she traced the path for many Latin music artists. Staging a musical based on her life, validates all the Latino artists who are succeeding in show business today,” said Daddy Yankee, 30.

The stage production, scheduled to open on September 12, will be directed by Spanish-born Jaime Azpilicueta, it features the Cuban actress Xiomara Laugart and the Puerto Rican actor-choreographer Modesto Lacén. “The musical will be about the star, but also about the human being who while hiding her tears and sorrows, moved her audience to stand up and cheer,” added Azpilicueta to the media.
