Spanish newspapers are saying that singer Alejandro Sanz is 20 kilos (approximately 44 pounds) heavier than he used to be. The media are attributing the weight gain to the obstacles he faced last year when had to cancel his tour and distanced himself from the entertainment world.

Reports inform that the “Corazón partío”‘ singer could have an eating disorder as a result of his emotional problems. Last year was a difficult one for the 39-year-old singer, who accused an ex-employee with extortion, had run-ins with Venezuelan president Hugo Chávez and cancelled his El tren de los momentos tour.

Sanz was recently photographed on the streets of Cáceres, Spain, wearing a black leather jacket and looking rather hefty. Even though the coat covered a lot of his body, his plump face made the weight gain evident.

Overweight or not, the artist will continue his tour through the United States. His next stop is New York on Jan. 25.
