TIME FOR A CHANGE
Silvia Eliza Díaz, faithful reader and VIP Club member of PEOPLE EN ESPAÑOL, wanted a makeover. “I have a little daughter and, though I know it’s no excuse not to fix myself up, I just don’t have the time,” explained Silvia, who also confessed that her husband wants her to fix her hair and wear some makeup.

We put our model in the hands of celebrity stylist Christo, who has worked with starlets such as Maite Perroni, Dayanara Torres and Kate del Castillo. He decided to cut her hair to give her more uniform layers. “She has nice layers, but they are by-level, they’re not uniform. I’m going to cut her hair so that the layers mix in,” said the stylist.

Silvia possesses thick and healthy hair. Christo opted to lighten it up a little with highligths. He chose an intense red color that contrasts perfectly with her dark brown mane. The style expert used Wella’s Koleston Perfect cream haircolor.

PREPPING THE SKIN
After washing off the hair dye, it was time for makeup artist Johanna from Christo Fifth Avenue salon. She started by prepping the skin with Smashbox Photo Finish. “It is very important to apply a primer before makeup, especially for women with oily skin, so that the makeup lasts longer. It also covers any imperfections like lines and pimples” advised the skilled makeup artist.

TRICK OF THE TRADE
To achieve the perfect skin tone, our makeup artist mixed several shades of foundation. She used Make Up For Ever HD High Definition foundations. “A lot of times it is difficult to find the right shade of foundation for your skin, especially for Latinas, since we come in different shades; also, your skin tone changes from winter to summer. So, by mixing different shades you will find the perfect shade for you,” she said.

Another trick Johanna shared with us is to wet the sponge with a bit of water or toner before using it. This helps blend the foundation better, she says, and your skin will look flawless. The expert preferred not to seal the foundation with powder, because our model has very dry skin.

PREP THE EYELIDS
Before applying eye shadow, Johanna prepped the eyelids so that the eye shadow stays longer. She used MAC’s Paint Pot in Painterley. “You can also use a matte eye shadow as an eyelid primer” she suggested.

“Since spring is already here, I chose a softer palette of colors. Besides, soft makeup is the best option for someone like Silvia, who usually does not wear makeup,” said the artist, who used MAC Eye Shadow in Expensive Pink and the Eye Kohl eyeliner from the same brand in Teddy.

This season, the trend calls for fuller eyebrows. We are seing this on the runways and the recent red carpets. Johanna painted our model’s eyebrows with brown matte eye shadow, using a fine brush. She recommends filling in the brows from the center outward for a more natural look.

“To achieve a good natural-looking makeup, it is important to highlight certain areas like cheekbones and the bridge of the nose,” said Johanna, who mixed some foundation with Make Up For Ever Uplight highlighter and applied it on these areas “for a instant glow.” She then applied Smashbox Cream Cheek Trio on her cheekbones.

A DIVA’S GAZE
To make her eyes standout, our makeup expert applied false lashes, a trend that is becoming more popular each day amongst celebrities and fashionistas. She finished off with Maybelline’s Colosal Volum’ Express Mascara, which is her go-to mascara because “it doesn’t smudge at all, it looks great all day long and it’s great for going out as well”.

Christo styled Silvia’s hair into waves, a style that makes her look really glamorous. He then sprayed some Shaping Spray from his Curlisto line to ensure that the hairstyle lasted longer.

“I feel beyond happy and I really want to continue looking like this. I’m sure that Armando [Correa, Managind Editor of PEOPLE EN ESPAÑOL Magazine] will want to place me among the list of the 50 Most Beautiful,” she said with a big smile as she looked at her brand new self in the mirror.
