After his exciting stint on Dancing with the stars (ABC), and the Broadway show Chorus Line, the host of the weekend edition of Extra (NBC), Mario López, will now head up the weekly show.

Telepictures Productions, which produces the show, announced the news recently, stating that the 34-year-old actor will replace former host Mark McGrath, who plans to work on his music career.

“”Mario … has established himself as a highly engaging, likeable and sought-after host and personality,” Hilary Estey McLoughlin, president of Telepictures Productions, said in a statement.

López will start his new job on Setpember 15, when the show’s new season starts. It’s the oldest entertainment news show in the U.S., after Entertainment Tonight . The Mexican American will be the main host along with current co-host Dayna Devon, who will remain as a special correspondent on the show, which has been renewed through the 2011-12 season.
