Singer-composer from Ecuador, Juan Fernando Velasco, 35, touring on behalf of his third album A tu lado is thrilled by the wonderful response he got from his fans in New York’s Madison Square Garden. As he was getting ready for his next live performance in Miami’s American Airlines Arena on August, 24, the singer of”Frente a frente” spoke to us about his music, his inspiration and his future projects.

Describe your music?
It’s hard to describe. It’s a combination of several styles, from traditional pop to hip-hop. But above all, I think my music is honest, it comes from deep inside me and what I compose and sing is whatever I felt at a given moment.

What’s the source of your inspiration?
I’m inspired by what is happening in that given moment. For example, when I was composing my previous album, Tanto amor, I was going through a complicated situation, getting separated from my current wife after a five-year relationship. Well, things worked out, now we’re married.

Your new album, what’s it about?
It’s about several things. For example, it’s about immigration, now that I’m an immigrant. There’s a song about street kids and I also wrote something for my 14-year old daughter Camila, it’s entitled “Si no pudiera estar” which talks about the day when I can’t be there for her. My favorite songs in this album are “Frente a frente”, the first single and “A tu lado,” which is about what a close friend was going through with his girlfriend, he wanted her back.

What is your next goal?
I want to expand my career internationally, especially in the US, Mexico and Puerto Rico. Luckily the press reviews have been great, so I have to live up to what they say about me.
