Jorge Ramos, the co-anchor of Univision news program Noticiero Univision and host of the Sunday show Al Punto, has won eight Emmy awards for excellence in journalism and hosted political forums with U.S. presidential candidates twice in the past year. On October 23, Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable magazines is giving him the Award for a Lifetime of Achievement in Hispanic Television.

“We at Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable are thrilled and honored that Jorge Ramos has accepted our invitation to receive this award,” said Larry Dunn, the publisher for the two trade publications.

“Jorge Ramos is most certainly deserving of this industry acknowledgment as he is highly-regarded by his colleagues in both Spanish- and English-language television,” Dunn said. “But, perhaps he is most deserving because of his professional approach to the news, which is reflected by his popularity with his loyal viewers.”

Jorge Ramos joins the ranks of noteworthy award recipients who have preceded him, including Sábado Gigante host Don Francisco (Mario Kreutzberger); popular sportscaster Andres Cantor; noted news journalist Maria Celeste Arraras; and beloved talk-show host of El Show de Cristina, Cristina Saralegui.

This is the sixth time this annual event has been presented by Multichannel News and Broadcasting & Cable. This year’s Summit is to be held at the NY Hilton Hotel on Avenue of the Americas in New York City. The dates of the Summit are Wednesday, October 22 and Thursday October 23, 2008.
