Apparently Daddy Yankee is not only a music maverick, but a cinematic success as well now that his movie Talento de barrio is breaking box office records in Puerto Rico.
The Associated Press reported that when the “La gasolina” singer, 32, heard the news about the record breaking sales, he “started screaming with joy.”
“Caribbean Cinemas reported that it was the best selling movie ever on opening day. There were 12 thousand tickets sold, and counting,” said the film’s producer Jorge Rivera. “We’re very surprised. We expected a good turnout, but not this good!” he admitted.
Mayna Nevarez, the reggaetonero’s rep, said “Daddy is just overjoyed,” and confirmed that the movie, which made its debut at the New York International Latino Film Festival, will be distributed in the Dominican Republic and the U.S. at the end of the month.
