Antonio Banderas’ father, José Domínguez Prieto, passed away on Saturday in Spain after battling an illness for some time. Loved ones said goodbye to the former police chief at the Virgen del Carmen cemetery in Marbella on Sunday. He was 87.
During the funeral, the 47-year-old actor was noticeably choked up. His wife, 50-year-old actress Melanie Griffith, and his 11-year-old daughter Stella del Carmen consoled him. Griffith and their daughter traveled from their home in Los Angeles to be with Banderas on this difficult day.
His father’s death did not come as a shock to the Spanish actor, who after visiting his family over Christmas decided to remain in Spain and postpone professional obligations in order to stay close to his dad, whose health had been deteriorating.
Sources close to the family told the media that Banderas was constantly at his father’s side, taking care of him until his last breath. Domínguez Prieto was surrounded by his wife, children and grandchildren when he passed away.
