At only 23 years old, América Ferrera is already being recognized as one of the most talented and loved actresses in Hollywood. Publications The Hollywood Reporter and Billboard will honor the Ugly Betty (ABC) star as Hispanic Woman of the Year on Oct. 9 at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Los Angeles.
John Kilcullen, editor of the publications, said that Ferrera “is a leader for all women, but especially those in the Hispanic community,” and added that the actress is “dedicated to advancing the position of Hispanics in television and film.”
The occasion marks the publications’ first celebration of Hispanic Women in Entertainment. Including Ferrera, the ceremony will recognize the 25 most powerful Hispanic women in film, television and music.
“It’s an honor to be in such esteemed company,” Ferrera expressed in a statement. “And it’s a thrill to see talented women recognized for their work behind the camera.”
Her role as Betty Suárez in the successful Salma Hayek production has earned her a Golden Globe, Emmy, ALMA award and Screen Actors Guild award.
