After a 17-tear absence from Televisa, Lucía Méndez is returning to this studio and will be featured in the telenovela Amor sin maquillaje with Rosy Ocampo as producer. This production is a narrative of 50 years in the life of the most popular staple of Mexican TV.
The story will cover the development of the telenovela genre through the eyes of several generations of three makeup artists. The 52-year-old singer/actress will play one of them. “It will feature all the stars who gave life to five decades of melodrama, either as special guest performers, or playing themselves, but there’ll all be there,” stated Ocampo to the Mexican daily El Universal.
The repertory might include Verónica Castro, 54, whose participation in the project is yet to be confirmed. It could mark the first time of the two divas have performed together on TV. Peopleenespanol.com learned from the producer’s office that Castro has already been invited to appear as a special guest star.
For the longest time rumor had it that the two telenovela divas were rivals, nevertheless Méndez is well disposed toward working with Verónica Castro, if it’s a worthwhile production. If this reunion takes place, it would be a historic coup for Ocampo, since many producers have tried it for decades and failed.
Méndez’s last telenovela with Televisa, Amor de nadie, was in 1990. She moved to Miami to undertake projects with Telemundo, with Televisa’s permission, but later she was vetoed. So Méndez went over to Azteca TV, creating the chasm with Televisa that lasted 17 years.
